Scrabble, Words with Friends and many other word games are all pretty popular right now. Words with Friends is one of my favorite games on my phone. Because of the popularity of these games, there has been a lot of Scrabble related crafts recently. I decided to jump on the Scrabble craft wagon and create a few fun projects. Last Summer, I asked my mom to keep her eye out for any old Scrabble games at garage sales and thrift stores. I didn't have any luck finding any games, but my mom found three. With three games, I had a lot of tiles to use for projects. Check them out below!
Scrabble Family Board
I made the board below for my Grandma for Mother's day this year. She loved it! It has her name in the middle, her daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Plus there is room to grow! Just not from me! I would still like to find a frame for it though.
I simply glued the letters to the Scrabble board, using a hot glue gun. It worked very well. The hot glue dries very quickly, so make sure you have the letters placed exactly how you want when you set them down. There is hardly any time to adjust the tile after placing it on the board.
Scrabble Drink Coasters
Next I made a couple sets of drink coasters. One set of 'drink' themed words and the other set of 'happy' words. All words are four letters. I did four letters across and four letters down, which worked out to be 2 7/8" across by 3 1/4 " down. First I set out the tiles and measured the dimensions and then I cut some cork I had. The cork is pretty thin and has adhesive on the back, so I could always stick it to something else if I wanted. After cutting the cork pieces, I started gluing the tiles. I used the hot glue gun again for this project. And again make sure you have the tiles placed where you want them when you set them down because there isn't a whole lotta time to adjust.
Scrabble Place Cards
The last thing I used the Scrabble letters for was for name place cards for a table setting. Pretty self explanatory, just grab the tile racks and the tiles needed for the names and place on your table. Now everyone will know where to sit.
Have you done any projects using Scrabble letters? If so, please share with us! Remember keep your eyes out for Scrabble games at garage sales and thrift stores.
Happy Champagne Thursday!
Cheers!
