School's Out For Summer

Today is Parker's last day of school!  The past couple years Parker has gone to school during the Summer, but we are taking a break this Summer.  Hopefully we both survive.  We have lots of fun things planned for the Summer, so we will stay busy.

Check out Parker's first day of school pictures here.  I just realized Parker is pretty much wearing the opposite of what he wore on the first day of school.

Parker will be attending a couple Summer camps and hopefully some swim lessons to break up being at home with mom all Summer.  He is also planning to spend a few days with my aunt.  She has more energy than anyone I know.  They will keep each other busy and have lots of fun together!

We're going to go to a couple of the Summer Kid Series Movies that Carmike Cinemas offers.  $4 includes movie admission, kid's tray with popcorn, drink and snack.  Regal movie theaters offer a Summer kid series too with $1 admission.  It will be a fun break if we have a super hot day or a rainy day.

We also plan on going to the lake a few times, checking everything off Parker's Summer Bucket List, play groups, the list goes on...  It always seems like there is so much to do during the Summer and never enough time.

Scrabble Projects

Scrabble, Words with Friends and many other word games are all pretty popular right now.  Words with Friends is one of my favorite games on my phone.  Because of the popularity of these games, there has been a lot of Scrabble related crafts recently.  I decided to jump on the Scrabble craft wagon and create a few fun projects.  Last Summer, I asked my mom to keep her eye out for any old Scrabble games at garage sales and thrift stores.  I didn't have any luck finding any games, but my mom found three.  With three games, I had a lot of tiles to use for projects.  Check them out below!

Scrabble Family Board
I made the board below for my Grandma for Mother's day this year.  She loved it!  It has her name in the middle, her daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Plus there is room to grow!  Just not from me!  I would still like to find a frame for it though.
I simply glued the letters to the Scrabble board, using a hot glue gun.  It worked very well.  The hot glue dries very quickly, so make sure you have the letters placed exactly how you want when you set them down.  There is hardly any time to adjust the tile after placing it on the board.

Scrabble Drink Coasters
Next I made a couple sets of drink coasters.  One set of 'drink' themed words and the other set of 'happy' words.  All words are four letters.  I did four letters across and four letters down, which worked out to be 2 7/8" across by 3 1/4 " down.  First I set out the tiles and measured the dimensions and then I cut some cork I had.  The cork is pretty thin and has adhesive on the back, so I could always stick it to something else if I wanted.  After cutting the cork pieces, I started gluing the tiles.  I used the hot glue gun again for this project.  And again make sure you have the tiles placed where you want them when you set them down because there isn't a whole lotta time to adjust.

Scrabble Place Cards
The last thing I used the Scrabble letters for was for name place cards for a table setting.  Pretty self explanatory, just grab the tile racks and the tiles needed for the names and place on your table.  Now everyone will know where to sit.

Have you done any projects using Scrabble letters?  If so, please share with us!  Remember keep your eyes out for Scrabble games at garage sales and thrift stores.

Tray Makeovers

Quite a while ago, a year or so ago, I bought a couple trays from Target on clearance.  One was a Valentines tray and I can't remember where I found the other one in store.  I finally took the time to make them over and dress them up.  With a few coats primer, spray paint and protective gloss these trays are ready for Summer!

I primed both of the trays with a white Rust-Oleum primer.  Then I used a few coats of the Rust-Oleum Sun Yellow spray paint and topped it off with a couple coats of Rust-Oleum Clear Gloss finish.  After allowing it to dry and set for a couple days, I brought it inside and got it ready for some refreshing drinks.  It's kind of similar to the trays West Elm sells for around $60.  I think I bought the tray for around $3 and I already had the spray paint from other projects.  Its bright, happy and perfect for Summer!

The next tray I used the same primer and gloss, but used Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze Spray Paint.  It was the spray paint I used for this mirror.  Then I thought it would be fun to add something fun to the bottom of the tray.  I cut a piece of cardboard to fit into the bottom of the tray, then hot glued some fabric around the cardboard and placed it in the tray.  The  fabric covered cardboard can be removed if needed.  It's not secured to the tray.  Right now its corralling all of our sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, etc.  We usually leave all of that stuff out in the Summer, so its easy to remember to use and to find.

Parker's Summer Bucket List

Last year, I created this Summer Bucket List for myself.  It has been one of my most popular posts, thanks to Pinterest.  I get really excited whenever I see that someone has pinned one of my projects.  It makes me happy!

We've had a gorgeous week here, filled with lots of time playing outside, soaking up the sun.  So, I figured it was time for another Summer Bucket List, even though its not quite Summer.  This year I thought it would be fun for Parker to make a list of things he wants to do this Summer.  He talked and I wrote everything down...

It looks like we will have a busy Summer!

Happy Champagne Thursday!
