Oh Deer! My Holiday Mantel

So, I was checking out my Christmas Pinterest board, thinking I should do some sort of holiday craft and I came across this guy, a glittered reindeer I pinned a year ago.  I wanted to do something fun for our mantel and since I am kind of into gold and deer decor right now, this was perfect.

*Sorry for the lack of pictures in this post, I lost all the pictures on my iPhone from the last week.  Project pictures, Santa pictures, sledding & snow pictures, Holiday party pictures, silly boy pictures, Elf on a Shelf pictures, etc.  I'm just realizing how many pictures I took last week, ugh.  Very sad day!  Oh dear!

I used a 16 x 20 inch canvas and download a deer silhouette here.  I saved the image to my computer and then used Block Posters to enlarge the image, to print and transfer to my canvas.  I printed the image on 4 sheets, 2 across by 2 down, then taped them together and cut out the silhouette.  Then I traced the deer silhouette onto the canvas with a pencil.  Next, I put a thin coat of clear Elmer's glue over the silhouette, using a few q-tips.  Then covered with gold glitter and let dry over night.

Here's the finished project on my mantel, with some other gold accessories.

A New Christmas Tradition

We have a new Christmas tradition in our house, Elf on the Shelf!  My mom got it for the boys for their birthdays.  I had thought about getting it in the past, but the thought of moving the elf every night kind of stressed me out, so I waited and then my mom got it for them.  But so far, so good and the boys are loving it!  One of Parker's favorite movies is Elf, so he named our elf, Buddy.  He's already watched the movie a few times in the past couple weeks.

Parker loves finding Buddy every morning.  And so far both boys have followed the no touching rule, which has impressed me.  Buddy showed up in our Christmas tree, then rode a reindeer, played on a light fixture, drank some syrup and plowed some snow.  I have a few more ideas on what Buddy will be doing, but there are a ton of ideas on Pinterest that I've been checking out too.

I set an alarm on my phone, so I remember to move Buddy every night after the kids go to bed.  I've almost forgotten a couple times and I don't want to have to explain why the elf didn't move to Parker.

Speaking of books, we've been enjoying our Christmas books!  One of my favorites is Snowmen at Christmas  I love the illustrations and there are hidden pictures on each page that you are suppose to find.  Parker and I have fun looking for all the hidden pictures and some of them are really hard.  Ryder's favorite is Good Night North Pole.

What are some of your favorite Christmas books?

Birthday Boys

November is always a busy month for us, the boys both have birthdays, Parker on the first and Ryder on the eleventh.  I feel like the first half of the month is a constant birthday celebration.  It's a lot of fun, but kind of exhausting.  Here's a quick recap of Parker and Ryder's birthday celebrations.

This year we started celebrating on Halloween, with bringing treats and goodie bags to Parker's school.  He doesn't go to school on Fridays so we celebrated at school a day early.

On Parker's actual birthday, we started the morning off with breakfast at Paul's Pancakes, with my parents and grandma.  They have the best pancakes!  Then we had a somewhat relaxing day, then we were off to the Top Hat for Family Friendly Friday and the Whiz Pops!  The Top Hat is a bar/restaurant in Missoula that offers family friendly bands on Fridays from 6-8.  The kids can run around and dance to the music and the parents can enjoy an adult beverage.  The Whiz Pops are so much fun!  I highly recommend them to any of my friends with young kids.

Dancing to the Whiz Pops

The next day we had a joint family birthday party for the boys.  I went with a surf theme this year, which is something I've always wanted to do, but since the boys' birthdays are in November it makes it kind of hard.  There friend party was at an indoor water park, so I figured I could go with the surf theme.  I tried not to go too overboard and used decorations from around the house, mostly from Ryder's room.  I was really trying not to stress myself out and did things as simple as possible.  I didn't even make them a cake or cupcakes, we just had ice cream.  It was excellent ice cream though, Big Dipper Ice Cream.

Decorations:  Surf boar and beach sign from Ryder's room.  Sand from our wedding in Hawaii and a ukulele we brought back for Parker when we were in Hawaii a few years ago.  I filled up red and blue balloons with water and froze them for our drink container.  It was something fun I saw on Pinterest and they lasted longer than ice cubes.  Then sunglasses for party favors and pictures!

The following Thursday was their friend birthday party.  It was at an indoor water park that has a couple of water slides, a mini pool for the younger kids and a hot tub.  It was three hours long and I think I saw Parker for maybe 10 minutes while he eating dinner and cake.  They boys and all their friends had so much fun!  I put together fun sunglasses and swedish fish for the party favors.

Party Favors

On Ryder's actual birthday, we went to Paul's Pancakes for breakfast too!  Breakfast is Ryder's favorite meal!  He would eat cereal at every meal if I let him and he's always asking for pancakes, waffles and syrup. Then the boys and I went to our weekly Play Group and then home for lunch and naps.  After nap time we met up with dad and took the boys to a park downtown and to the carousel.  It was suprisingly nice outside that day.  Then we went out to dinner at MacKenzie River Pizza and home for left over cake.  We did the exact same thing for Parker's second birthday; park, carousel, pizza and home for cake.

Ryder loves balloons!

Make a wish!

After Ryder's birthday was over, I felt like I could start getting excited for the Holidays, my favorite time of year.  And I may have gotten my Christmas decorations out today.  In my defense, I had to get into our crawl space for a baby gate to loan to my brother (No it's not for a baby, it's for their new puppy.  He did just get engaged this week though.  Yay!) and getting into the crawl space is kind of a pain, so I figured I might as well get our Christmas decorations out too.  I haven't put them out yet though, but I probably will this weekend.

Happy Birthday to both my boys!  I can't believe how big you both are getting!

Happy Champagne Thursday!

Cheers!

Ryder's 1st Day of Preschool

Ryder had a big week, he turned two on Monday and started preschool today!  I was nervous for two reasons.  One, he can be a little mean to other kids, like hitting, kicking, biting, pushing, etc.  And two, he is a mama's boy, which I love, but it can be difficult if I leave him with anyone else.  The good news about his school is he has been going with me the last two years to drop off and pick up his brother, he knows at least 4 kids already at school and one teacher.  Parker is at the same school, but in a different building, down the street.

When I dropped him off this morning he was excited and didn't seem to care that I was leaving.  But, when I returned I learned that he had quite a few tears, but he was easily distracted, so they didn't last long.  And he hit one little girl. It will take some getting used to, but it will be good for him.  And I'm looking forward to getting a little work done during the morning, instead of at 9 or 10 PM.

Here are Ryder's first day of Preschool pictures.  He's very serious!
